A definite cause of Restless Leg Syndrome or RLS has not been found yet.
Many speculate as to what truly causes these symptoms.
Some think it's due to social behavior such as drinking alcohol, smoking, caffeine, or obesity that trigger these symptoms.
Others think RLS is associated with medications being taken such as some cold and allergy medications. Or anti nausea drugs, anti phychotic drugs, anti seizure drugs, or antidepressants may play a part.
Reseachers believe an imbalance of dopomine in the brain that controls movement is a leading cause of Restless Leg Syndrome.
It has also been suggested that some diseases such as Parkinson's disease, kidney disease, or diabetes may contribute to restless leg syndrome.
Deficiencies in iron ,potassium or anemia has also been suggested.
Fortunately, ongoing research is being done to understand, diagnose, and treat restless leg syndrome. Eventually they will find the answer.
Until they do find an answer on the cause and treatment of restless leg syndrome, the best we can hope for is to find how to relieve the symptoms.
